Later this month the LAPQ will record their debut album, featuring the music of Joseph Pereira, Eric Guinvian, Jeffrey Holmes and Sean Heim at Skywalker Sound in Marin, California.

Founded in 1995 by Sandy Lerner and Len Bosack (founders of Cisco Systems), Sono Luminus credits their expertise in digital signal processing, computational mathematics and physics with elevating their ability to capture true performance fidelity in classical music recordings. In recent years they have received the 2007 Award of Excellence in High Resolution Audio from the Audio Engineering Society, nominations in both the 50th and 51st GRAMMY® Awards, and most recently won Best Engineered Classical Album at the 53rd GRAMMY® awards (2011). Sono Luminus is distributed internationally by Naxos to over 60 countries.

Scheduled for the spring of 2011, the LAPQ will travel throughout California's Central Valley, San Francisco/Bay Area, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and San Diego. The Quartet's performances will feature Eric's fantastic new work, Ritual Dances, and interactive teaching/performing master classes with young percussionists.

The applause was genuine and enthusiastic, so much so as to be delivered after each movement of the work (not that the performers minded!)

Two more performances are slated for the remainder of the 2009/2010 season, including a quick jaunt to the California Institute of the Arts to perform Eric Guinivan's Ritual Dances, and then a major end of the year performance at USC's Newman Hall, where the LAPQ will be the ensemble-in-residence of the 2nd Los Angeles Composers Project, sponsored by the What's Next Ensemble.

This performance will feature an encore presentation of Shaun Naidoo's Bad Times Coming (with guest pianist Vicki Ray), Eric Guinivan's Ritual Dances, and two works by Jeffery Holmes, Rays of Twilight and Occasus (world premier). Plan on being there on May 27th to help us celebrate a lot of great music, as well as the end to a very successful first concert season!

Begun in 2007, the Chapman Percussion Symposium is a day long music festival that showcases Southern California's greatest respected and 'up and coming' percussion artists. Always free of charge, and open to the public, the Symposium's events range from masterclasses, lecture/demonstrations, and of course, incredible performances.
