the Los Angeles Percussion Quartet

Summer Spent Recording!

The Quartet spent much of the month of June rehearsing and recording the music of David Johnson and Steve Forman. We had a great time in the studio working with recording engineer John Baffa of TV Tray Studios. The sound is beautiful, and we're excited to complete post-production this fall...looking toward 2011 and our Spring Tour for the CD releases. Way to go Eric!

Eric Guinivan recently received a grant from the Theodore Presser Foundation for $10K that will fund an extended LAPQ tour throughout much of the Southwest!

Scheduled for the spring of 2011, the LAPQ will travel throughout California's Central Valley, San Francisco/Bay Area, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and San Diego. The Quartet's performances will feature Eric's fantastic new work,
Ritual Dances, and interactive teaching/performing master classes with young percussionists.

Of course, there will be a lot of news forthcoming about the 2011 tour, so
stay tuned!

End of the Season News

The LAPQ received rave reviews following a performance of Jim Tenney's Three Pieces for Drum Quartet at a recent Monday Evening Concert in downtown LA's Zipper Hall (Colburn School). The applause was genuine and enthusiastic, so much so as to be delivered after each movement of the work (not that the performers minded!)

Two more performances are slated for the remainder of the 2009/2010 season, including a quick jaunt to the California Institute of the Arts to perform Eric Guinivan's Ritual Dances, and then a major end of the year performance at USC's Newman Hall, where the LAPQ will be the ensemble-in-residence of the 2nd Los Angeles Composers Project, sponsored by the What's Next Ensemble.

This performance will feature an encore presentation of Shaun Naidoo's
Bad Times Coming (with guest pianist Vicki Ray), Eric Guinivan's Ritual Dances, and two works by Jeffery Holmes, Rays of Twilight and Occasus (world premier). Plan on being there on May 27th to help us celebrate a lot of great music, as well as the end to a very successful first concert season!

3rd Chapman Percussion Symposium

The Los Angeles Percussion Quartet will be headlining the 3rd Chapman University Percussion Symposium.

On Saturday night, February 6, 2010, the LAPQ will perform in Chapman's historic Memorial Hall, and will feature a premier of ensemble member Eric Guinivan's percussion quartet.

Begun in 2007, the Chapman Percussion Symposium is a day long music festival that showcases Southern California's greatest respected and 'up and coming' percussion artists. Always free of charge, and open to the public, the Symposium's events range from masterclasses, lecture/demonstrations, and of course, incredible performances. No matter if you are a beginning student, professional player, or percussion enthusiast, you'll be sure to have a great time! More information can be found at www.chapman.edu/music
